The minute you walk in the door you realize it is classy authentic Cantonese restaurant.We had a great selection of dumplings, some super tasty spicy dishes, tender and succulent pork, and the mandarin chicken was just Devine. We really enjoyed the Chinese broccoli dish as well.We found the staff really attentive, and had drinks orders the minute we sat down, and continued attention if we would like additionals, and how was the food.So glad we found the restaurant, and the reviews don’t lie. RuYi describes itself as relaxed fine dining of modern Chinese cuisine.We were warmly welcomed and shown to our seats in the simply presented dining room that provides a comfortable atmosphere. The service was thoughtful and always beaming with a smile. You get the impression the team are proud of where they work.We opted for a range of the sharing plates and were not disappointed. The evening opened with what turned out to be an agreed choice of best dish, Fried Artisan Tofu with caramelised soy, fushion mayo and nori. The flavours were quite different but delicious.Perfectly steamed vegetarian dumplings followed, filled with bok choy, shitake and vermicelli. Closely following was the vegetarian lettuce cup filled with Shiitake mushrooms, celery, carrots and peas. The mushrooms were flavour-filled.The highly recommended, by the house, Bao Bao arrived at the table and looked picture perfect. Slightly toasted the bao was so soft and the filling had a zing that got the taste buds singing.We finished off with a great choice of the Soy Mustard cold noodle salad with shiitake, capsicum, peanuts, soy mustard and chilli. The cool refreshing tastes and textures of this dish just rounded out a delightful meal in the right way.A Lychee and Pomegranate Fizz Mocktail was also a welcome choice.RuYi is another welcome addition to dining before a show and I suggest it is well worth a visit. Good value for money, nice people and really tasty food with a range of flavours.I suggest you give it a try.PS – Wicked was our show for the evening, back in Melbourne after about 15 years, and it lived up to very high expectations. Great cast, unbelievably fantastic costumes and settings and wonderful story. Worth another look.

Additionally, we ordered 4 bowls of rice to go along with the food, however the waiter informed us that as the Peking duck came with a plate of rice already, we could cancel 2 bowls of rice and save a bit of money. Very thoughtful! Will definitely be coming back.

Messalena: Popped in here for dinner whilst on holidays with my 2 daughters, 7 and 9 years old. 2 weeks later and they are still talking to everyone about how amazing our waiter was and their experience in the restaurant. They tell anyone who asks about our trip how they were served by the kindest man. Not only was the food amazing and completely delicious; but all the staff were absolutely brilliant, so kind, accommodating, and friendly. The service really made the experience and it became a holiday highlight! If only we lived nearby!

We had the beef with broccoli, mushrooms in oyster sauce and it was watery and pretty tasteless. The Peking duck has always been our go to but at $10 each we expected more. Even the hoisin sauce was not up to their previous standards. I remember this restaurant being full of Chinese people but on our visit there were very few. We'll still go back because it's a great restaurant but we wish they would lift their game food wise.

Paul Clark: Fairly expensive so not sure why they only have one waiter serving the entire restaurant. Seriously they need to employ more waiters. The place itself is lovely with nice river and city views. The banquet is excellent. Can’t fault it. Each dish is individualised so no fighting with the more greedy members of a group over the food. There is also a good amount of time between courses, they don’t throw the food at you and hope you leave in an hour. This place is chilled and the meal lasts hours which is a welcome change. The one waiter worked their arse off and was very friendly.

Only improvement can be made was on service as it was pretty much a one man show. The waiter was very lovely and accommodating, however he was overwhelmed with serving about 8 customers all on his own. It was difficult to get his attention at times, but he was all on his own. Perhaps they have issues with staffing. Would have given 5 stars if service wasn't an issue.

Michelle Ersan: Favourite place to go for dumplings.
Glenn Busuttil: A hidden gem. Small in size but big on flavour and service. Stumbled on it by chance and have been back several times and never fails to satisfy! Highly recommend.
Brad Hammond: Great as always. My fave dumpling joint in the city, cheap and cheerful and always delish.Friendly staff too

Jasmine Viviana: I love this place. Me and my partner go there regularly because of the dumplings and being super affordable. I mainly go there for the supreme rice vermicelli noodles as it reminds me of a local restaurant in Hong Kong. The place is never too crowded and the aesthetics is a bonus

Desmond Siu: Pretty cool that you can order with iPad, I went an hour before they close so it wasn't crowded. Food was quick and fairly priced

June Ho: A pleasant surprise coming into a restaurant with us the only Chinese having Chinese crusine. The dishes have slightly different cooking style but the taste is refreshing! The price is also very affordable and definitely recommend my friends to come.Recommended dishes Peking Duck …
