Dogs are allowed off-leash in a designated area on the western side of Thomson Water Garden, but must be on a leash within five meters of the Maribyrnong River Trail and in all other areas of the park. They are not permitted in the playground area at any time.

Events such as personal training sessions, weddings, and general events can be held at Footscray Park. However, permits and bookings are required for these activities to ensure the continued enjoyment of the public space.

Footscray Park boasts the most intact Edwardian period public garden in Victoria, designed by architect Rodney Alsop in 1911. It also contains a memorial garden for soldiers who served in World War I and World War II, as well as a memorial to the poet Henry Lawson.
