If you choose to take the private dance lesson, then all lessons are tailored to your needs. If you choose to take group dance lessons, then we have lessons ranging from absolute beginner to advanced. We teach a greater range of styles than other studios in Melbourne:

Swing: Lindy Hop, Rock and Roll, Blues, West Coast Swing - note, we teach authentic dance and do not teach the manufactured 'swing' that you will find at other dance studios

We focus on teaching dance in a way that is authentic. That's why we teach both types of tango: the original Argentine and the international standard. We have had students who have had lessons before travelling to Argentina and been told that they are some of only a few who have learned 'proper' tango beforehand. It's also why we teach a number of swing dances as opposed to the culturally insensitive and bastardised "swing" you will see at other dance studios. We ensure authenticity by aligning with the Australian Dancing society, liaising with traditional dance societies like the Harlem Lindy Hop Dancing Society and interviewing traditional dancers in our Facebook live Dance Talk video series - see an this interview with Katrina Rogers about blues dancing as an example.

We know you are looking for something fun. You might also be looking for a challenge and some exercise, but you still want to enjoy yourself. That's why we always focus on making sure you learn to dance (no matter your level) and get to enjoy the experience. Our teachers all love dance and want to share that love with you. It's this focus on loving dance, as opposed to drilling nothing but technique, that makes our lessons fun.

We are located at the Elsternwick Park Sports Club in Brighton. Close to bus train and tram. And we have plenty of parking on site. Easy to get to from the city, Richmond, Bentleigh, Chadstone, St Kilda and all over Melbourne.

Even as an experienced swing dancer, I still learn so much in Rusty's classes. He makes sure that everyone has a good time while learning - from beginners to advanced dancers. I especially love how he encourages us to put some "ham" into our dancing (ie. put your own personality into the moves to make it fun which then leads to lots of laughing!) It doesn't matter if you have previously done a different style of dancing or have never danced before, Rusty knows how to teach swing to all levels. I just love the creative freedom of swing dancing and Rusty is one of the best teachers I have had. Come along and join us!

Rusty plays the best music in class that makes learning so easy. I have made many friendships and hand many laughs with my fellow classmates. We learn a variety of moves from Lindy to Charlestons and everything in between. I really enjoy learning the line dances like the Shim Sham, Sings Progressive, and Singing in the Rain - just to name a few. I am always learning something new and can't recommend Rusty's classes enough. Although I would give him a rating of 6/5 if there was a free beer with every class. HAHAHA

I have been going to Rusty's classes from the beginning, when he took over from the legendary Pat Noakes. Just like Pat he makes everyone feel welcome and valued, whether beginner or advanced, and is always willing to take time out to help you if you're struggling with a move or concept. Just to make sure we don't get stale Rusty has taught many different styles over the years - 6 beat Swing, 8 beat Swing, Lindy, Balboa, Slow Swing, Slow Bal, Charelston and Solo Jazz Steps. That might sound a lot, but the classes are usually structured to include say, three styles into one mini-routine. On top of that he manages to teach one or two Christmas/End-of-Year routines each year, which are then performed at the end-of-year party and for other dance venues. These are choreographed to allow participation from beginners through to advanced. I would definitely include Rusty's Swing classes with the must-do/top classes in Melbourne. Cheers,
